Studying the Bible really humbles you. You’ll read many times over give to the poor, or give to those that need, or to those less fortunate. But, if we’re being honest, you’ll also read to treat others as you’d treat yourself, or as you’d want them to treat you. That’s what being a friend, a neighbor, a relative is truly about. The old saying “my brother’s keeper” or “it takes a village” embodies it. So, I don’t volunteer because I’m trying to be seen or to score points. I love to volunteer because it’s in my DNA.
It’s who I am.
If we can’t serve one another, how will we ever serve God? And if we can’t serve God, how do we serve our spouse? It just feels good to serve someone, especially when it’s with the right intentions. The look on their face, their kids faces, when the keys to their new home is placed in their hands. That’s priceless. In the post you see, I had an opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity in Monroe, NC this past Memorial Day. I helped build a couple of sheds that were later taken to the homes of their new owners.
I had a blast.
